Color Rendering Enhancements

Hex Workshop v6 now features the ability to tag byte sequences and data, adjust the foreground and background colors, and surround data with a color coded border. This feature is integrated with all of Hex Workshop tools and allows users to quickly and graphically identify data within their documents. All colors and the relative priority of colors are user definable and a popup tip window helps the user set this color coding.

Goto Enhancements

A Quick Goto button was added to Hex Workshop's toolbar. It allows users to quickly jump to a user defined offset within a document. Users can define the Quick Goto button to jump to an absolute or relative address in either hex or decimal. The Quick Goto function maintains a list of the last 16 jumps. Users can also click on the offset area with the Editor or the Editor Column Header to adjust the caret position.

Compare Enhancements

The integrated binary comparison utility now allows users to set the starting offset and comparison length for each document enabling selection comparisons across documents or blocks within a single document. A list of the last 16 comparisons is maintained for quick reference. The files, starting offsets, lengths, and advanced comparison parameters are also recorded.

Structure Viewer and Bookmark Enhancements

Both the Structure Viewer and Bookmarks have been updated to better support Unicode strings. In addition, they now support one-clicking editing of data values. Users can specify the editor behavior when selecting a Structure or Bookmark and can adjust color rendering highlights.

The Structure Viewer also allows users to copy a select Structure to the clipboard validate their structures while adding.

Character Distributions Enhancements

A graphical display of character distributions was added. It allows users to view the distribution and concentration of characters within a document or selection.

Checksum Enhancements

Hex Workshop added the ability to generate SHA2 (224, 256, 384, and 512 bit), RIPEMD (128, 160, 256, and 320 bit), Tiger and Whirlpool hashes, along with both custom CRC-16 and CRC-32 checksums. Checksums are also now displayed for multiple documents and allow users to compare hashes and checksums.

Find Enhancements

Users can now use the Find function to identify the next or previous byte sequence that either matches or does not match the current selection. The Find function is available through the application menu and the right-click context menu. The ability to find the next sequence that does not match the current selection is useful when looking for the end of a repeating byte sequence.

Preferences Enhancements

Hex Workshop's Preference interface has been rewritten to support the new user-defined color coding options, and many other new user preferences, including: Find function and compare results specifications, structure definitions, and bookmarks. In addition, users now have comprehensive control over the defaults paths used for opening, saving, comparing, importing, and exporting files.

Maintenance Agreement

Customers purchasing Hex Workshop now receive a full year of product maintenance upon ordering. Product maintenance entitles customers to all product updates and upgrades and can be extended for 20% of the current Hex Workshop retail price, if renewed prior to their maintenance expiration date. BreakPoint Software's product maintenance agreements are the most cost effective and efficient way for users to ensure that they are operating the most current with Hex Workshop. Maintenance is offered at a 50% savings over the purchase price of a product upgrade.

NOTE: Hex Workshop v5 and earlier offered no-charge major upgrades for customer purchasing Hex Workshop within 45 days of a major upgrade and free minor upgrades up to the next major upgrade.

License Files

Users can now run Hex Workshop from a USB key without reinstalling, thanks to a BreakPoint Software migration from a Windows registry to a file based licensing mechanism. License files are now automatically downloaded from BreakPoint Software's license server or can be manually downloaded and imported using Hex Workshop's Activation Wizard.
